Sustainable Transportation

Mobilizing sustainable transport for development

Transport is one of the prime sectors where adaptation measures are needed to reduce the vulnerability to climate changes. IPCC 2007, states over 90% of the fuel used for transportation is petroleum based which includes primarily gasoline and diesel. However, a change in the existing system is required by switching to an electric vehicle that offers a low carbon alternative compared to gasoline powered vehicles. Optimal driving techniques and maximising the usage of public transportation can help in cutting down the emissions and cost. Hydrogen is considered as a clean energy carrier which can be produced from renewable and nuclear energy and emits clean water as an alternative option to power vehicles. The Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises (MoHI&PE) has initiated policy and implementation measures to fast track adoption of Electric vehicles in India.
